August 7 2007 - National Night Out

The Guardian Angels started their day at The Hardy Recreation Center in the 2nd district. We ate pizza with the Police Officers and about 30 kids ages from 5 to 11years old. We explained the history of the Guardian Angels and talked with the kids about the difference between snitching and reporting a crime.

At 3pm, we went to Barry Farms Recreation Center. We assisted with putting chairs on the stage for the speakers/guests, assisted with unloading water and set up a Guardian Angels information table.

The best part of our day was going around the city with Police Chief Cathy Lanier. It made the guys feel very important and lets us know that she really appreciates the sacrifice the Angels make when we leave our families to volunteer to help make DC a safer place to live and visit. I truly believe we have the best Police Chief in the nation. I appreciate the opportunity to carry a MPD radio, and the opportunity to train at the DC Police academy. But for the Chief to allow us to travel the whole city with her while she addressed approximately 400 new recruits is something the DC Guardian Angels will never forget. We look forward to a long-term working relationship with Chief Lanier and her team.
